History: The Konjo School of Martial Arts

Founded by David Butler, the Konjo School of Martial Arts opened in 1979. Over the last four decades the school has moved to several locations, but the principles upon which it was founded remain unchanged: dedication, commitment, technical excellence and perseverance.

The word Konjo has special meaning in the Japanese language. Konjo means strong mind, spirit, and perseverance. As an institution, the Konjo School of Martial Arts has always placed the teaching of these values as the highest of priorities. The concepts of dedication, discipline, and morality are at the core of our teaching philosophies.
